The NFL season is about to begin, and Brett Favre is probably somewhere in Mississippi to retire. But we have not played this song before?
We did it in 2008 when he retired from Green Bay, but returned to play for the New York Jets.
We did it in 2009 when he retired from the Jets, but returned to play for the Minnesota Vikings.
We did it in 2010, when Favre had to be persuaded by his teammates Vikings, who came to his farm, not one year to play.
Here we are in 2011 and the regular retirement is really done?
Well, if Favre is interested in playing another season like the Miami Dolphins will be considered as a possible landing site for the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer.
"I can not exclude anything," coach Tony Sparano said when asked directly to a column by the Sun-Sentinel published, advocates on behalf of Favre's.
Sparano pointed out the Dolphins are not afraid to get older players to be added through training on Tuesday called Tiki Barber and defensive end Jason Taylor, the fact was re-signed earlier this week.
Favre, who played 20 seasons, has a relationship with new Dolphins offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, who served as his quarterback coach during his one season with the Jets.
Dolphins coaches are not happy with what they have seen the quarterback play during the first week of training camp. And neither have the fans, the established starter Chad Henne showered with boos and "We want Orton" sing at the team Monday night scrimmage.
Asked about Henne, a 13-14 record as a starter for the team, Sparano acknowledged that striking the former Michigan, who is entering the final year of his contract, the team's starting quarterback, "at this time. "
This off-season general manager Jeff Ireland pledged to a savvy veteran to add to the roster push Henne, if not dethrone him. But a deal with Denver that would have obtained Kyle Orton fell apart last week.
The Dolphins signed Matt Moore to compete with Henne, but the former Carolina Panther starter has been unable to practice because of the CBA has not been ratified.
The Dolphins also have Tom Brand Stater and rookie Pat Devlin in the camp, throwing passes. But those two are more realistic as the third quarterback, if not the practice squad options.
Asked whether the team ended up chasing a quarterback Sparano not try to evade the question.
We always have our eyes open," Sparano said, "and are always exploring possibilities."
And one of these possibilities could be Favre, who was linked to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this summer as a possible back up Michael Vick.
If Favre came to Miami he would be familiar with terminology and Daboll offense, meaning that it probably would not take him long to learn the offense. He's only one week behind the rest of the team.
Favre started 16 games with the Jets, completing 65.7 percent of his match, throwing for 3,472 yards and 22 touchdowns. That season he made a 81.0 quarterback rating, and followed it up with a 107.2 quarterback rating in his first year with the Vikings.
Favre last season but wore down physically, and the Vikings fell apart right along with him.
Favre had the worst statistical season of his career in 2010.
The question is, how motivated he is redeeming himself? And he is interested in becoming Snowbird, moving to South Florida this fall.
