Easy Henna Pattern - fine lines possible with Jamila

Here is a photo of a henna design for one of the talented stylists at BLU salon. This free hand design is based in part on her selection of a style of tattoo from one of the many design books I bring to work. It is also created to compliment the shape of her hand.

I began to draw the pattern just above the wrist making a shell outline that is thicker on one side than the other. That pattern is filled with very fine lines. Next, I drew a curving line .. and while it may be hard to see at first.. if you look closely, you will see it. It is duplicated.. so there seems to be a ribbon.. filled again with very fine lines. The flower in the center of the hand was an important design component for this client. As well, since she works with her hands every day.. we tried to keep the design off the fingers.

It didn't take long at all to create this mehndi. The silky smooth (never needs sifting) Jamila henna makes a great paste every time. Click the title of this post to purchase fresh 2006 henna powder.

Jamila Henna Powder - 2006 crop - on sale!

jamila henna powderGreat color right!! I took this photo of my own hand about 36 hours after the henna paste was removed. I am holding the new 35gm box of Jamila Henna powder.
The amazingly fresh 2006 crop of Jamila henna is ready to sell. ( I finally put the shopping cart on line).
I have two sizes for sale - the 35 gm box of foil sealed super fine henna.. and the 100 gm box!
The small box makes enough for 3 or 4 cones of paste (using my recipe anyway.) If you don't make up henna very often, then choose the smaller box.
The 100 gm box makes lots! I am still using the first one I opened, and I am making two fresh cones a week.
Click the title of this post to get to my henna website.. and the shopping carts.
Stay tuned for more photos.

Lizards! Tribal style henna tattoo

I would love to give credit where credit is due .. and this great lizard pattern is not my own design.
It is incredibly popular!! A great tribal style design.

I really like the way its riding along the back of this lovely girl... so.. if you drew this pattern, my hat is off to you. If you know who did.. please post a comment on the blog so we can give a link to the artist.

This photo was taken at BLU.. a great salon in Historic Five Points, Riverside, Jacksonville.. where you can get henna -ed every Saturday. It's best to call for an appointment if you want a complex design. You can reach Ann George at 904-993.7466.

Stay tuned.. I have photos of the June 2006 Jamila henna coming soon.

Celebrating Pregnancy with a Henna Tattoo for the Belly

pregnant belly henna tattoo

It is always an honor & a pleasure to be invited to do henna in celebration of the birth of a child.

The couple who came for mehndi had a very clear idea of what they wanted... and they also brought photos!

The father of the baby took lots of pictures as the henna was being applied... and I was able to take this one of the final result.

As always, i spoke with the mother before I made the paste to be sure she did not have any allergies to any of the ingredients in the henna paste.

Fine Line Henna Palms at BLU - Jacksonville Tattoo

I am so happy to have just received my first shipment of Jamila Henna. This is fresh, fresh henna from the June harvest.. and so finely ground that I just open the box.. and mix the powder right up.
This very finely ground henna makes the most remarkably smooth paste making it easy to quickly accomplish designs that would take longer with a paste of variable consistancy.
Look at this photo of a traditional Indian pattern.. note the fine criss cross lines on the fingers. This tattoo was done using the traditional henna cone, not a squeeze bottle or a cone with a special metal tip.
